Glamorous Backstage Life…

Sunday, May 7th, 2006

Here are a few shots taken backstage in Cincinnati at the “Bogarts” club one night. I think that the photo credits go to Dan Mapp - our tour manager. This first one shows Dave warming up, Joe working on the set list, Rodney is redecorating, and I’m sipping tea.

Video Shoot Photos: The Thing That Only Eats Hippies

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

Here’s a couple of shots from the video shoot for “The Thing That Only Eats Hippies”. This was our first video and in fact the only one shot on video tape. The first photo shows Rodney in between two hippies played by David Wildman on the left and Chris Coccia on the right. David was a local show promoter and music fan. He used to book shows at the Kennel Club and later became partners with our manager David Reckner and formed Raw Productions. They managed us and few other bands as well as promoted shows in the area. Chris was a friend and our first band photographer. He’s been a a professional comedian for many years and recently MC’d the benefit reunion shows we did to honor Dave Blood in November 2004.

The next shot shows Rodney and Joe performing as the rappers TDM. This was shot in an upstairs parking garage which would later become the home of Third Story Recording. We recorded Eat Your Paisley here.

The last shot shows Dave Blood and I dressed as the “punk rockers”.

Dead Milkmen at The Atomium

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

Here we are in front of the Atomium in Belgium on tour in 1992. We took a tour of this place. The Atomium was built for the 1958 Worlds Fair and was recently refurbished.

Typical “Youth Center” Accomodations

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

When we toured Europe we often played the local “Youth Center” in towns. The show was downstairs and then the bands would sometimes stay upstairs. Here’s a typical bunk. Plush eh?

Dean - On Tour in Europe 1992

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

Here’s me on tour in Europe in 1992. I think this is in the Netherlands? During my “only wear solid colored T-shirts and an old T-shirt sleeve on my wrist” period!

The Milkmen with “The Bison”

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

Here we are with my sister and some of her friends at the local historical museum near my parent’s house. We rehearsed in the basement and Nina and her friends sometimes watched. They called themselves “The Bison” and you can hear them on our recording of “Land of the Shakers”. Photo by Don Boorse.

Can anyone ID what the band or logo on Joe’s shirt is?

Milkmen w/Dad

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

Here we are with my (Dean’s) father. Photo by Nina Sabatino. In the years 1983-1985 we often rehearsed in my parent’s basement.

Update: Nina says in the comments that it is her 21st birthday cake that I’m feeding my dad - dating this photo as taken in 1988.

Milkmen w/Mom

Here’s the Milkmen with my (Dean’s) mom! Rodney and I stuff our faces while Joe looks happy and Dave seems to be contemplating a mustache. This was at my parents house where we rehearsed in the basement in the 1983-85 time period. Photo by Nina Sabatino.
